The Dodge Brothers Radiators

Brassworks is pleased to offer the McCord Radiator core for Dodge, Cadillac, Studebaker, Oakland, Hupmobile, & many other classic cars and even farm tractors. The McCord core construction was commonly found on Dodge Bros radiators from 1914-1926.

The Dodge Brother company did not adhere to a predictable yearly model change.  Owners are encouraged to consult the Dodge Brothers Club for guidance in selecting their core design and provide a description and drawing of the core rather than the year of the vehicle.  The shape of the core has proven the best means of determining the appropriate shape and type of core.

Many Dodge Bros. cores have been restored with continuous fin honeycomb style cores installed in place of the tube-and-fin type McCord style shown in the drawings.  The Dodge Bros. Company did not offer a honeycomb style core off the assembly line. Brassworks can either convert the honeycomb to a stock McCord tube-and-fin style, or rebuild the radiator with a new honeycomb style core.

Honeycomb cores can vary widely in their design. A pencil rubbing taken from the core helps allow us to accurately price a new replacement.

About the Dodge Bros. Company

John and Horace Dodge began their start in the automotive industry by supplying engines and transmission to R.E. Olds. Later, they sold engines, transmissions, and axles to Henry Ford for his automobiles. By 1913 Ford had moved away from purchasing these components, to producing and adapting them to their own machines. The Dodge brothers adapted to this change and the loss of business by producing their own vehicles. The brothers had enough financial backing to be successful and to produce an automobile that was durable, high in quality and an affordable price. By the 1920's, the Dodge company was second largest total producer in sales. Both Ddoeg Brothers died that year and the company sales soon declined. Walter P.Chrysler stepped in in 1928 and saved the sinking company.

Chrysler lowered quality and prices was to generate sales during the Depression and by 1930 Dodge had moved into seventh place in overall sales eventually selling entry-level vehicles. Swithcing to Desoto Brand the sales climbed up to fouth place.
