The Flying Quail, perched on the hood of the the 1930 Ford Model A, was one of the first Stant ornamental radiator caps. Henry Ford was an avid birdwatcher and suggested it, and even though he knew that Stant would satisfy his exciting demands for perfection in the functional performance of the cap, Mr. Ford supervised every step of the artistic design. Some theorize that the quick takeoff of a surprised covey of quail was the reasoning behind the selection of this iconic mascot.
